About UNAD

Mission

UNAD mission
"To promote access to quality education, health services, advocate for non-discriminative polices and building capacities of associations."

UNAD's mission is to advocate for the equalisation of opportunities and for the rights of the deaf people in all fields of life;: basic higher education, employment, health and social economic welfare.
In doing so, UNAD tries to ensure that services developed or to be developed are relevant to the needs of deaf people in Uganda.

Equalisation of opportunities as well as rights of deaf persons calls for the recognition of Uganda sign language as the language of the deaf Ugandans. Skills can be best taught using sign language.

UNAD vision
Best quality of life for deaf people in Uganda.

UNAD mandate
Empowering the Deaf through capacity building, advocacy and lobbying.

Uganda National Association of the Deaf (UNAD) is a member to a number of organisations:
  • World Federation of the Deaf (WFD),
  • World Federation of the Deaf (WFD),
  • Ugandan Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU),
  • Ugandan National NGO forum and many others.
The primary task of the Association is to look after the interests of adult people communicating in sign language, provide services for them and act as the expert in this sector.

The Association’s activities encompass the whole human life span, from enhancing the status of Sign Language and improving the availability of information for education and training, culture and social services.

The Association has both national and international co-operation partners.
